Lamb Marking
Lambs should be marked within 3 - 6 weeks after their birth. Four operations are usually carried out.
Ear marking is the cutting of the registered mark in the right ear of the female lambs and in the left ear of the male lambs using special ear marking pliers.
Tail Docking is carried out by removing the tail using a knife or a rubber ring. This is done to all lambs as it protects them from Blowflies and diseases in around around the anus.
Male lambs that are not needed for breeding are castrated using and knife or a rubber ring.
Vaccination involves a small injection of vaccine to protect the lamb againt diseases. The vaccine is given by a syringe, usually inside the lamb's back leg or behind the ear.
